Grade 1

This beginner course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of chess, providing a strong foundation for future growth. Ideal for those with little or no prior experience, the course covers essential topics such as board setup, piece movement, and basic rules. Through interactive lessons and practice games, students will learn:

  • Understanding the Board and Pieces: Introduction to the chessboard, piece names, and basic movements.
  • Rules of Play: Essential rules, including check, checkmate, castling, and en passant.
  • Sportsmanship and Chess Etiquette: Emphasis on respectful play, focus, and confidence-building.

  • All slots are given on a FIRST COME-FIRST SERVE basis or BY THE CLOSING DATE whichever comes first.
  • Confirmation of registration is subject to full course fee payment.
  • Course fees paid are non-refundable. Pro-rating of course fees is NOT allowed.
  • Trainers assigned by Chess Grande may be subject to changes.
  • There are no make-up lessons.
  • Chess Grande reserves the right to cancel a session and provide a full refund if the minimum enrollment is not met. Refunds will be issued three working days prior to the scheduled session
